Practical answers for everyday wallet safety
This site explains self-custody principles; it does not independently verify an application’s implementation. Check how keys are created, stored, and used for signing. Never share a recovery phrase.
Checking on-chain balances and broadcasting transactions generally require connectivity. Offline phrase backups do not. Actual offline-signing support depends on the verified application.
Record the words offline in their exact order and check them carefully. Avoid screenshots, cloud storage, messaging apps, and unfamiliar web forms.
A private key authorizes cryptographic signatures. A recovery phrase typically regenerates keys in a deterministic wallet. Either can expose assets if compromised.
Check that your backup is complete, use a trusted device and installation source, and confirm addresses and networks after restoration. Never submit the phrase to support staff.
Verify the exact blockchain network, recipient compatibility, and token identity. Tokens with the same symbol can exist on incompatible networks.
Check the network, full address, asset, amount, and fee. Watch for clipboard substitutions; a small test transaction may help with a new destination.
Inspect the URL and original source rather than forwarded installers or ads. Review permissions and stop if anything asks you to upload a recovery phrase.
Look for imitation domains, urgent demands, unsolicited approvals, and fake support accounts. No legitimate recovery process requires providing your phrase to a website or stranger.
